COMPOSER'S NOTE
In my piece "The Storm," I wanted to mimic what a storm feels like. First, I start out very slow and flowing - like the weather is before a storm hits. Then I abruptly jump into a FFF section that feels very pounding and frantic, imitating the heart of a violent storm. The piece gets a little quieter, then jumps back up to FFF. Then, it slowly starts to slow down and become less crazy, but still repeating the same sequence of notes from the climax of the piece. This represents the storm slowly receding, yet still leaving behind the remains of the climax. |
COMPOSER'S NOTE
The Great Race is based off of my brothers movie he was watching in the car. A couple days ago he was watching some thrilling action-packed animated movie where there were animals flying. These flying creatures have just stolen something from a pyramid. That is why my piece starts quiet and then all of a sudden someone caught them and they were running/flying away. The left and right hand parts symbolize different characters. The left hand is the criminal and the right hand is the person trying to catch the criminal. I make the left hand intentionally very chaotic because when you are in danger, you don't really think of a strategy because you're only goal is to get away to safety. When running away, even during a game of tag, your brain is all over the place. The right hand symbolizes the person trying to catch the criminal because they have a goal they know their strategy their more collected. In the end I even made the character sound like a police car in the last two line. |
COMPOSER'S NOTE
The title of my song is The Magician. I tried to evoke a spooky mood through this song and I did this by using sharps and flats. I wanted the audience to imagine a magician who was showing a group of kids a new magic trick. The music is supposed to express the different expressions on the children's faces. Everyone starts out watching carefully, then when the magic trick unfolds the audience is left amazed at the end. The last measure of my song was supposed to represent the end of the magic trick. The tempo of the song was adagio, because it was a fairly slow song which symbolized the different stages in the magic trick. Overall, the sharps, flats, and naturals helped set the mood for the song. |
