For this piece, I started by just dabbling with chord progressions without looking at the orders you gave us. What I came up with became the chorus. I had already had a sense of the lyrics and melody for the chorus previously so that fit well, although unfortunately, the recording and transferring of the chorus chords led to it be more sped up than I first intended. For the verse, I used I looked at the chord progressions you gave us, picked a key close to the chorus' and found a nice pattern I liked. The lyrics here were definitely harder for me to connect than the prechorus and chorus. For the background, I just experimented with some guitar and bass sounds that somehow ended up coming together to form my musical piece.

I chose to do the ABA solo piano song for my project. For the first A part, I played around with the chord progressions for C to try and make a sound that would get stuck in people's heads. I researched online how to make a hit pop song and they stressed to keep it simple since that is what's easiest to remember. For the B part, I stuck to simple chords and alternating chords. For the second A part, I stuck with the same idea; I tried to keep it simple yet have it be different and not sound like the first A part or the B part. After that section was my attempt to make a bridge section (but it ended up sounding like another B section). I then repeated the first A part but used a different instrument. I ended it all with a C chord.
My inspiration was trying to make a song that someone could listen to when they wished to relax or when they are trying to sleep. My instruments had an outer space feel, which is why I titled my song Written in the Stars (which I believe is the title of an already existent pop song). |
My composition includes a simple but singable cello melody with an uplifting feel, along with numerous created drum/beat loops, syncopated piano chords, and deep octaves of a bass line contrasting the higher melody from underneath. The song was written from the middle to the ends, not beginning to end, but even then, the transitions from one section to the next were still smooth. "Rise" is built on a vi-IV-I-V chord progression in the key of G Major, while the chorus tends to stay around e minor and G Major more with the last chord of the four in D Major (the dominant triad). The piece begins slower and quieter but grows in intensity and energy, as well as tempo (slightly) with its intro-verse-prechorus-chorus-verse-prechorus-chorus form.

When I first started this project, I was planning on trying to incorporate acoustic guitar as the main instrument. I came up with a few melodies that sounded nice, but then I started to explore some other instrument options. Since the song "Trumpets" came out, I have started to like the sound of wind instruments more, so I really wanted to explore making my own song using trumpets as the main instrument. I found that an instrument that was kind of mysterious, for it sounds like a mix of strings and piano, was the best fit for the trumpets. Adding a subtle layer of guitar, I finished my song. I call this song "Awakening" because throughout it, the song builds into a sort of peek, which sounds as if it were a resolution.

When composing this song, I tried to convey relaxing, peaceful emotions, so that you could listen to this song and just take a breath. I overlapped three different instruments to play the melody: the flute, strings, and the FM piano, giving it a more dreamy feel. I really enjoyed composing this song, and am proud of the result :)

I just played around with the required chords for each section and found a sort of base for each melody. As I put the sections together, I changed some of the tempos, notes, and instruments of each section. It's called Summer Blues.

Here is my song. It's called "live in peace." I called it this because I had many ideas from an organization in my town called Live in Peace. The people there inspired me to write a happy song. The verse part of my song reminds me of when I go walking to Live in Peace. The chorus represents the great times I have hearing people show their talent on L.I.P's open mics. I had an idea to use notes from my past piano peace "moment" so the melody mainly consists of A,B,C and a few other notes. I ended up using chords from the C major scale. At the ending I decided to use the Em and Dm chords cause it sounded cool to me.

I was inspired by the melody in "Terrible Things" by Mayday Parade for my A section for the song. I used the CEG chord, BDG chord, CEA chord and CFA chords. I played the song in a 3/4 in the key of C major, and I played the song once with my right and once with my left because I had difficulties playing it at the same time. It was very interesting that the song still sounded well-made with only four chords incorporated into them in different progressions. I had a fun time composing it, but next time, I would like to have an opportunity to create a song without having to use specific chords, but rather a specified number of different instruments instead.

I wrote it in the key of C major in a 4/4 time signature. The chords were CGAF/GAFC/CGAF. I decided to use the GarageBand drum addition on iPads to make my own beat. I used the melodies from the chords to make up the melodies for each section.

My song is called "In da cluub". I was inspired by the energy that the beat brought to the piece and I thought that I could keep the energy with a jazzy melody in the verse and an interesting chord rhythm in the chorus.
