KENDALL
The piece I have created is called Spring in the Air. I created my song using mainly major chords, suggesting the title "Spring in the Air." I utilized the first few chords and notes that came to mind and I started to fiddle with them to create my piece. This project was the very first time I have done a piano composition like this! I hope you like it! |

I originally tried to make this composition as complicated as possible, but then I discovered that I wouldn't be able to play it in a million years. Then I made most of the eighth notes into quarter notes, and some of the feeling remained. I was inspired by all the great classical pieces I have listened to since the beginning of the school year, and I wanted to be able to make a dramatic piece with a simple yet catchy melody. I am not sure if I did that here, but I am still proud of this project because I composed it on my own. |

MEGHNA
When I received this assignment, I initially had no clue what I was going to compose, so I started off with the first phrase that came to my mind. After I got a clue of the overall mood of the piece, I just kept adding on phrases that kept popping up in my mind, and before I knew it, I had a piece done. named this composition "Winter Awe" because when I heard what I produced on Sibelius, I got reminded of the wonders of snow, how each each drop floats down gently from the sky. Furthermore, whenever I play the A note on a piano, I associate the sound with a white color, and because snow is white, I found the name even more appropriate. The key signature of the piece is in A minor and the overall tempo is andante but smooth. The overall mood is supposed to be calm and peaceful, to show the gentleness of the winter snow. The piece has a moment of forte descending back to piano to show the intensity of the beauty and returning to the feel of gentleness. Overall, what started as a feeling of uncertainty has become a piece I feel quite proud of. |

I based my soundscape off of the landscape project we did from garage band. I added in a part with chords which I like because it goes along with the chorus really well and it breaks up the chorus and is a break from the original melody. I enjoyed doing this project because I was able to play the piece that I just original made in garage band with loops, on the piano. I really liked it. I wanted it to sound minor and since we were learning about flats at the same time, I decided this would be a good project to incorporate the use of accidentials. |

NICOLE
I composed this song because it is a melody that I have had in my head for quite some time. I started to play around on the piano and realized that I liked the light, high notes because they felt delicate almost like dancing on air. I then wanted to add more depth to this angelic feel to showcase the different aspect that go in to each individual person. The piece starts off presenting as very beautiful and light and serene. It then develops and you see there is a darkness and an intensity the wasn't present the beginning. I named the piece Tale of a Midnight Dancer because I think midnight is a mysterious time when secrets tend to be revealed and that it coaxes new emotions out into the open. I used the imagery of a dancer in the title because I feel that there is a dance going on between dark and light and the piece moving. Midnight is intense and lonely but it is also serene and beautiful which I tried to reflect in the song. |

BECCA
This is my composition called "The Journey." When I first began writing this piece, I did not have a set melody in my head; however, I knew that I wanted it to be major and sound happy. I also knew that I wanted the piece to be simple, so that the listener could listen to very clear and calm music. I titled my composition "The Journey" for many reasons. The main reason was because I think that this piece can represent the "journey" of one's life. For example, the first part of the piece (minus the first 5 measures) starts off very calm and quiet, but then as it goes towards the end, the piece gets louder and more complex. This can represent a person first starting their life as a young child and soon becoming older and bigger. The end of the song then resolves then by becoming peaceful again, symbolizing a person's journey coming to an end. |

When I was writing this piece I wanted it to sound like spring. That is why it it in a major key, so it has a happier tone. It also reminds me of spring because in most of the measures, the chords are going up. When I wrote this song I had already kind of thought up the notes and rhythm in my head, but it was harder than I thought it would be to write it all down. I labeled my piece "Paired together" because most of the composition is made up of chords. |
